We want everyone to feel safe and a part of their local community and are committed to addressing inequalities by working with partners to improve the lives of local Traveller families and support them in achieving better outcomes.
The Council has a responsibility to ensure that Cornwall’s Gypsy, Roma and Traveller residents have equal access to services and facilities and this is in accordance with the Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. However, these local residents often find it more difficult to obtain employment and access health and social care, housing, education and other public services. This has led to significantly worse health and living outcomes for this group of local residents.
We have been working with partners to better understand the needs of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller families and communities across Cornwall which resulted in the development of a draft 'direction of travel' Strategy and the consultation on this draft Strategy was for 12 weeks between the 29th January and the 26th April 2024. The Response Report detailing respondents comments and how they have been used to develop the Strategy is available (also under Documents).
