Being a Green Champion
The more champions we have the louder our voices become.
You don’t need to be working in Truro to join the council campaign to reduce its carbon footprint.
We are looking for green champions across the council estate and wider.
Although you can get involved as little or as much as you’d like, the general role of a green champion include:
Being part of a passionate, active, environmentally focused network
Helping support the Council to reduce carbon emissions
Helping the Council to eliminate single use plastics
Supporting colleagues to make greener choices
Spreading the word and educating those around you
Connecting the Carbon Neutral Cornwall team and Council employees
Getting involved in low carbon initiatives and providing feedback
Helping to spot and implement quick wins in your area.
As a Green Champion you are supporting the Council's ambition to become a Carbon Neutral Council by 2030.
The Council declared a climate emergency in January 2019. On declaring a climate emergency the Council's motion stated:
Cornwall Council will, wherever possible, phase out the use of all single-use cups, lids, plastic bottles, plastic-lined cardboard, and any other single-use plastics from the entire Cornwall Council Estate by 2020.
Cabinet unanimously approved the Council's Climate Change Action Plan in July 2019. The Action Plan sets out the Council's ambition for Cornwall to become carbon neutral by 2030. This is an ambitious target, that may well prove impossible, but it will require us all to act in our capacity as residents and local leaders in Cornwall.
