Cornwall Council are looking to do something different with the buildings we deliver our frontline services from. We want to create a single space for our customers to access multiple services and meet the needs of the local community.
A review of Falmouth and the surrounding area was carried out, and after considering various options, it was decided to create a new Service Hub. Service Hubs provide a welcoming environment and offer easy access to essential services.
The hub will be at the Tregenver site in Falmouth where Adult Education and Adult Day Services were operating from. Tregenver, formerly the Falmouth Boys Grammar School, was officially granted Grade II listed status in July 2021. This recognises its architectural and historic significance and we will therefore only be making internal changes and refurbishing the inside of the main building.
We will continue to provide Adult Education and Adult Day Services in the hub, as well as additional services such as the Family Hub, Registrars, Safe and Well. The Family Hub services provided from The Lighthouse on The Beacon will continue to operate due to the catchment area it serves.
There are three buildings on the Tregenver site, however we will only be making internal changes to the main building.
Chi Aberfala is the new name for the Falmouth Service Hub. The name is derived from the Cornish language, where “Chi” means “house” and “Aberfala” refers to Falmouth.
Latest update
Refurbishment works on the main building commenced in November 2024. Completion is scheduled for November 2025.
For more information about these changes, please see the plans on the right-hand site of this page.
