Decision Following Consultation.

Thank you for responding to our consultation.

Overall, there was a mixture of responses received, with some in support of the proposals and some objections. After consideration of the responses received, it has been decided that the proposals in the following locations will be implemented as advertised:

SN06 P01 Gweek; SN07 P01 Kernick Road, Penryn.

Following discussions with Gweek Parish Council, and considering comments received during the consultation for Meneth Road, Gweek (SN10 P01) it was decided to implement the proposals in an amended form, outlined below (see plan SN10 Gweek S01):

  • Amend the existing daytime restrictions to 9am – 4.30pm.
  • Extend the double yellow lines at Penwyth Lane to the end of the footway on both sides of the road.
  • Include junction protection at the access road to the Seal sanctuary.
  • Extend the double yellow lines at Rose Terrace to prevent parking on the verge.

The proposal to remove double yellow lines on North Parade, Falmouth (SN03 P01) received a mixture of comments. However, objections from Falmouth Town Council and Local Councillor led to the proposal being abandoned.

Our works programme indicates that construction will start during summer 2026. Please note that any new speed restrictions will not come into effect until all the necessary works have been carried out on site.

What are we consulting on?

North Parade, Falmouth: We are proposing to remove a section of “No waiting at any time” restrictions (double yellow lines) along North Parade. This change would allow unrestricted parking in the affected area, increasing the availability of parking spaces for both residents and visitors. Additionally, it is also expected that any parked vehicles will act as informal traffic calming, supporting compliance within the newly installed 20mph speed limit.

Gweek: We are proposing to introduce new “No waiting at any time” restrictions in the vicinity of the Old Mill Farm Cottage and The Old Corn Mill. This is to help traffic flow more smoothly through the village. At present, vehicles often park on both sides of the road, creating a bottleneck and reducing visibility at junctions. The new restrictions aim to prevent inappropriate parking that obstructs vehicle movements and visibility for both pedestrians and drivers. Furthermore, it is proposed to amend some of the seasonal waiting restrictions on Meneth road to all year. These areas are never suitable for parking so this amendment will not affect parking availability. However, it will simplify the signage and lining making the restrictions clearer for drivers.

Additionally, a series of remedial measures are proposed to support the recent introduction of 20mph speed limits. These include revised signing arrangements and carriageway roundels in Perranwell and Ponsanooth, the introduction of a part-time advisory 20mph speed limit at Kernick Road, Penryn and the repositioning of the existing Vehicles Activated sign.

Why are we doing this?

As part of the 20mph Rollout it was agreed that each site within the network area would be reviewed after installation, and where necessary supporting measures would be provided in an effort to improve compliance.

These changes are intended to make the roads safer for everyone and to improve the area for local residents and visitors.
