Empowering Local Communities

Cornwall Council and our Local Nature Partnership recently declared an Ecological Emergency in response to steep declines in nature across Cornwall. We will be developing a blueprint for a Nature Recovery Network in 2022 through a Local Nature Recovery Strategy. To help us, we want to understand you and your community’s role more clearly.

Local councils (including parish, town, and city councils) across Cornwall are invited to take part in a project about empowering local communities to help nature recovery.

Enabling nature’s recovery is a fundamental response to the climate and ecological emergency – and local councils have a crucial role to play in its restoration at a local scale. As part of the ‘Empowering local communities’ project, we would like to find out about how parish, town and city councils view their role in delivering nature recovery locally. In this survey we ask what local councils are already doing for nature– and what barriers prevent them from taking action.

Outputs from the project will be used to inform nature recovery in Cornwall and beyond. The project aligns to a range of strategic priorities for Cornwall. This includes the Carbon Neutral Action Plan, the Environmental Growth Strategy, and the emerging Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

This survey will take approx. 10 mins to complete. No prior knowledge of nature recovery is required for this survey and there are no right or wrong answers. More than one response per authority may be submitted. We are interested in hearing the views of as many different councils as possible – so whether you represent a small rural parish with limited assets or a larger urban town or city council, please do share your views.

This survey closes on Friday 4th February 2022.
