YEP: Helping Lexi Rise to Her Future
LexiAt the time Lexi joined YEP, she was new to Cornwall and felt unsure about what would happen next. She had missed the deadline to apply for college and was finding things a bit difficult. She needed some extra help and support. Lexi knew she wanted to learn new skills and get ready for future jobs. Her aim was to do this before starting college. She worked with Eileen (YEP key worker) and ended up achieving even more than she thought she could.
“When I first came to YEP, my mental health was really low and I didn’t know what to expect. I’m so excited to start college in September”. – Lexi.
YEP initially paid for Lexi’s provisional driving license. Eileen knew that photographic ID would help with finding a job. Lexi told Eileen she would love to complete a lifeguard qualification. Eileen encouraged her passion and YEP paid for her to do the qualification. She passed first time. Lexi then began preparing for her college interviews. Meeting with Eileen (and supported by her family) she began practising potential questions. After weighing pros and cons for local provisions. She was accepted onto the course of her choice at her first choice of college.
On top of everything Lexi had already achieved, she also got her very first job. She starts in a couple of weeks, and she’s thrilled about it. We are all incredibly proud of her. We know she will shine in anything she sets her mind to.
