Proud to Care Cornwall Awards – Shortlisting Opportunity
Proud to Care Cornwall is looking for people with lived experience of adult social care to support the shortlisting process for the 2026 Proud to Care Cornwall Awards.
For the past two years, we have worked with the fantastic group Citizen Checkers who helped shortlist two of our award categories based on their own experiences and perspectives of what outstanding care looks and feels like.
How it works:
- Nominations are pre-sifted and anonymised before being shared
- You would review the shortlisted nominations as a group
- Using a simple scoring process, the group helps identify a final three to go forward to the judging panel
This year, the session will take place at New County Hall, Truro, with venue availability currently on either:
- Tuesday 14 July 2026
- Thursday 23 July 2026
Refreshments will be provided.
Those involved will also be invited to attend the Proud to Care Awards Evening at Tregenna Castle in St Ives on 11 September 2026, with the opportunity to speak about their experience on the evening if they wish.
Nominations for the Proud to Care Awards are now open until 30 June 2026, and we would really value your support in sharing this far and wide so we can hear from people receiving support and their families as well as colleagues and providers. It is always incredibly powerful to hear directly how a care worker has made a positive difference to somebody’s life. You can see the different award categories and nominate here: www.proudtocarecornwall.org.uk/awards
We would be very grateful for any expressions of interest for this year, or from anyone who may wish to be involved in future years as the initiative continues to grow.

Kernow Directory Customer Journey Testing
The Kernow Directory is being developed and is not yet the final version.
Throughout June, we are working with providers to improve entries so they are more useful for people using the directory.
We are planning a full public launch in July.
Before this, we need to test how people using the site feel it is working and what improvements we can make to improve the users experience.
To do this, we have arranged three, one-hour sessions over three weeks. In these sessions, we will look at the directory from different users' perspectives to understand:
- what works well
- what doesn’t work and needs improving
- what guidance or support tools people would find helpful
We are asking for your support to join one or more sessions, test the directory, and give honest feedback.
If you are able to help, please email me cheryl.bridges@cornwall.gov.uk to let me know which session(s) you can attend.
Each session will focus on a different part of the directory, and discussions will guide the session.
As mentioned, the Kernow Directory is an ongoing project/ resource that will continue to improve over time, with the aim of becoming an easy-to-use, go-to tool for residents and practitioners in Cornwall.
Session dates:
- Monday 22 June, 10:00–11:00 (Teams)
- Tuesday 30 June, 10:00–11:00 (Teams)
- Thursday 9 July, 10:00–11:00 (Teams)
Thank you in advance for your support in helping us improve the directory. We hope it will become a valuable tool for you in the future.
Local Plan Together We Can Forum engagement event
This is an opportunity for forum members to participate in the local plan event to be hosted by Creative Kernow for the Together We Can Forum.
This session is for a small group of members with lived experience to help scope some of the work for the Local Plan with a key focus on people with Lived experience.
We have limited numbers of people who can attend the session and ideally we would like a good mix of members and personal experiences to help inform the work.
Influencing local work- The local Plan was one of the priorities identified at our last forum in February.
The event is an in-person event:
When: Wednesday 24 June 2026
Time: 10.00 - 12.00
If you are interested in being part of this group please email cheryl.bridges@cornwall.gov.uk by 09 June 2026 to confirm, so the session can be planned.
Please let me know of any arrangements or requirements to ensure you are able to fully take part.
The session to be led by Creative Kernow and will focus on what is important for people in their communities in relation to the next Local Plan.
Overview
The Local Plan is an important document that informs planning policy.
Planning policies are the hooks on which planning decisions are made:
• To encourage the things we want to happen
• To limit the things we don’t want to happen
• To mitigate the effects of development
