We are proposing to make changes to parking arrangements in the Charlestown area, specifically along Duporth Road, Charlestown Road, Church Road, and Crinnis Road.

What are we consulting on?

The overall proposal is broken into 3 sections which are as follows:

  1. Residents Only Parking Bay – Duporth Road
A dedicated Residents Only Parking Bay is proposed on Duporth Road. The aim is to support local residents who do not have access to off-street parking and who regularly face difficulties finding nearby spaces (Location and details can be found on the Site Notice - Duporth Road in the Documents section).

  2. No Waiting at Any Time Restrictions (Double Yellow Lines)
New double yellow lines are proposed along sections of Charlestown Road, Church Road, Crinnis Road, and Duporth Road. These restrictions are intended to prevent obstructive parking, particularly near driveways, bends, and areas where visibility is limited (Locations and details can be found in the Site Notices).

  3. Bus Stop Clearways
Several bus stops in the area will be formalised with clearway markings on the carriageway, prohibiting stopping at any time to ensure safe and efficient access for public transport.

Why are we doing this?

The Residents Only Parking Bay proposal is being funded by St Austell Bay Parish Council in response to ongoing concerns raised by residents of Duporth Road. An earlier informal consultation conducted by the Parish Council indicated strong local support for this measure.

The No Waiting restrictions and Bus Stop Clearways are supported and financed by the St Austell & Mevagissey Community Area Partnership. These measures are designed to improve road safety and accessibility by addressing issues of obstructive and inconsiderate parking.
