Eco-Schools Cornwall – 2025 Impact
We’re proud to celebrate the incredible success of schools across Cornwall as they join the Eco-Schools initiative
- 50 schools actively engaged and followed the Eco-Schools programme.
- 29 schools worked hard to achieve their Eco-Schools Green Flag award.
- A huge 9,345 pupils took part, learning new green skills and building lifelong habits for sustainability.
The Eco-Schools programme is completely free for schools to join. By participating, schools become active contributors to a greener future and can:
- Reduce energy use and bills.
- Improve biodiversity and promote nature-based learning.
- Teach practical life skills like gardening and sustainable food practices.
- Reduce water usage and manage waste effectively.
- Build climate resilience and community collaboration.
- Encourage active travel and healthy lifestyles.
- Schools that wish to go further can apply for an Eco-Schools Green Flag award, celebrating their achievements and showcasing their commitment to sustainability.
The Eco-Schools programme is designed to be pupil-led, and the Green Flag is an annual accreditation that celebrates the efforts of young people in their communities.
Just a few of the inspirational ideas students across Cornwall have led include: assemblies, planting vegetables, trees, and herb gardens, setting campaigns for families, creating bug hotels, nominating Eco-monitors, making bird feeders, and going on bug hunts.
“This project has deepened the children's sense of purpose, responsibility and ownership of their environment. It connects environmental education and action and shows how a small cog, at a local level, can make a big difference.” — Ben Stephenson, Headteacher, Nanstallon Primary School (Eco School)
