We are working across Cornwall to improve how early signs of eating disorders (EDs) and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) are recognised and supported among children and young people.
We know that nationally and locally, more young people are experiencing difficulties with eating and body image. Early identification and support can make a significant difference to outcomes, but signs are not always easy to recognise, particularly in school settings where young people may spend much of their time.
The Children and Young People’s Eating Disorder Service (CEDS) provides specialist NHS support; however, increasing demand and delays in identifying needs highlight the importance of strengthening early support within schools.
This survey is part of a project aimed at building confidence, knowledge, and capacity within educational settings. We are working with schools, NHS colleagues, and community partners to:
Improve awareness of early signs of EDs and BDD
Support staff to respond appropriately
Strengthen collaboration between schools, health services, and families
Ensure young people receive help as early as possible
Your feedback will help us understand current confidence levels, training needs, and existing practices in your setting. This will directly inform future training, resources, and support for secondary schools across Cornwall.
Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this important work.
