What are we consulting on?

The proposal is an extension to the existing 30mph speed limit on Bickland Water Road, from Falmouth Football Club, southwards to the junction with Prislow Lane. In addition, an uncontrolled raised pedestrian crossing is proposed on Mongleath Road, adjacent St Francis Primary School.

Refer to Site Notices 22 and 23 for details of proposed extents.

Why are we doing this?

The extension of the 30mph speed limit and the inclusion of a raised table crossing are the result of considerable Councillor and public feedback during a recent consultation for the introduction of a shared-use path and pedestrian crossings along Bickland Water Road. The reduction in speed limits and inclusion of the crossing will further improve safety along the route and help provide an environment that encourages trips to be made by walking and wheeling.

What was previously consulted on?

The previous scheme sought to make walking and cycling (active travel) more attractive, by providing a continuous widened path along the eastern side of the road. The existing footway will be widened to three meters wide where possible.

Four new signalised pedestrian/cycle crossings were proposed in place of existing crossings, to improve safety between residential, industrial and the local schools. Priority give way crossings were proposed at several side roads along the route. Junction widths were proposed to be reduced to improve crossing distance and reduce vehicle speeds, with seating areas provided where possible. Double yellow lines were proposed to be introduced or refreshed, to prevent obstructive parking.

The scheme received largely positive feedback, and is proposed to go ahead. However, a large number of requests were received in the feedback for the road to be reduced to 30mph, which is now being consulted upon.

The previous site notices can be found under "Previous Consultation Drawings / Site Notices", although consultation on those elements has now closed.
