Cornwall has now been accepted into the UK Network of Age Friendly Communitiesand the workcontinues to bring this to life.
Your feedback through our Age Friendly Survey, is now being used by our Steering Group, to focus our priorities.
Age Friendly Communities are recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as places that help people live a good later life.
Our goal is simple: to make Cornwall a place where people can live well and age well.
What happens next
Over the next 18 months, we'll work with residents, communities and partners to shape and influence the services, spaces and policies that help people age well.
Being part of the network connects us to the Centre for Ageing Better and more than 90 communities across the UK already doing this work includingDorset, Torbay and Bristol.
Their experience will help us progress and find out what has already worked in other places.
How we'll do it
We'll use your feedback through our Age Friendly Survey, the WHO's framework for age-friendly communities and work in partnership with other organisations.
The World Health Organisation framework sets out Eight Domains, and they give our work focus:
Outdoor spaces and buildings- Safe, easy-to-use parks, streets and public buildings so people can get around and enjoy where they live.
Transport- Affordable, reliable transport that keeps people connected: to shops, friends and appointments.
Housing- Homes that work for people as they age, so they can stay healthy and independent in their own communities.
Social participation- Social, cultural and spiritual activities that ease loneliness and help people feel they belong.
Respect and social inclusion- A Cornwall that treats everyone with respect and makes sure every voice is heard.
Civic participation and employment- Real support for older people to keep working, volunteering and taking part in public life.
Communication and information- Clear, easy-to-find information about events,services and support.
Community support and health services- Care and support that's easy to reach, affordable and genuinely useful.
