    Export payback

Our exports from our solar PV system were worth over £350 for a full year. This is through the Smart Export Guarantee scheme. Solar panels will halve your electricity bill as well as giving you SEG payments. This should help you work out you pay back time when buying solar panels.

    Electricity cost £1.94 for May

Our Solar PV system meant that our electricity for May cost £1.94 out of a total bill of £22.05. The rest of the cost is the standing charge and VAT. We only had to buy/import 0.27kWh per day. What is stopping you getting solar panels.

Keep a jug in the kitchen sink

We keep a 1l jug in our kitchen sink. If we run the cold tap to get colder water then it goes in the jug. If we run the hot tap to get hot water through then it goes in the jug. The water collected is then used for watering house plants or rinsing small items. Water is a precious resource with its own energy signature. It should never be wasted.

    Low carbon = low cost

We have just had a week where we exported 99kWh to the grid from our solar panels. At the same time we only imported 1kWh from the National Grid. Whether you believe in man made climate change or not, it is obvious that solar panels are a great way to cut your energy costs. This Ideas Bank is important in spreading these ideas to help ordinary people reduce energy costs.
