Hydrotherapy Provision Survey – Mid Cornwall

Introduction

We are gathering feedback from individuals, care homes, and community groups to understand the demand for hydrotherapy services in Mid Cornwall. 

Hydrotherapy is a water-based therapy that can help improve a range of health conditions and disabilities by alleviating pain and reducing muscle tension, improving mobility and circulation and supporting healing and rehabilitation.

Currently, there is no publicly accessible hydrotherapy pool in mid Cornwall, and provision across Cornwall is limited. While facilities exist at Kernow Hydro in Portreath and Harbourside Physiotherapy in Newlyn, these are privately run and may be too far for some.

This survey is being coordinated by a local community group in partnership with the Merlin Neuro Therapy Centre. We have been exploring hydrotherapy options to support the local community and how funding could be raised. This may include:

• Financially supporting the reopening of the hydrotherapy pool at St Austell Leisure Centre.
• Enabling public access to the facilities currently operating at the Merlin Neuro Therapy Centre at Hewas Water, near St Austell.

There are two pathways to the survey - Part A is for Individuals, and Part B is for Organisations (Care Homes, Support Groups, etc.) However, for both, this survey focuses on non-clinical use (i.e., general community access not prescribed by a doctor). We are grateful for your feedback, it will help us assess demand and inform future decisions.

This survey is undertaken by The Friends of Community Hydrotherapy Group with support from Cornwall Council. We do not ask you to supply personal data in this survey and your participation will be anonymous.

 We will use the information you provide to inform future discussions around local provision of hydrotherapy in mid Cornwall.

The data will be processed, analysed and held by The Friends of Community Hydrotherapy Group with support from Cornwall Council. Your feedback may be shared with Cornwall Council, NHS service leads, GLL and  The Merlin Neuro Therapy Centre to shape future services and plans.
